BOD

Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) is an expression of the quantity of oxygen required for the biological degredation of organic matter in a waste water sample. It is therefore a useful measurement for the determination of biologically degradeable organic matter in water, and the effects of domestic and industrial waste water on sewage plants and outflow points.

The Lovibond® Manometric System measures BOD by manometric respiration. This relates oxygen uptake to pressure changes within the sample bottle caused by oxygen consumption.
