Chromium Total

Chromium
Chromium is used in alloys, electroplating and in pigments. Chromium salts used to be used in cooling water systems to combat corrosion but have been discontinued due to toxicity. Chromium may exist in water supplies in both the haxavalent and trivalent state although the trivalent form rarely occurs in potable water. The current EC limit in drinking water is 0.05 mg/l.
Colourimetric Total Chromium analysis involves heating the sample with an oxidant to digest the Chromium compunds. The vial is then analysed in a photometer.
