Dissolved Oxygen
In natural waters, the amount of Dissolved Oxygen is usually taken as an indication of quality since all forms of aquatic life require a satisfactory level for survival. In boiler water systems, however, at high temperatures, Oxygen is highly corrosive to metals causing 'pitting' in the cast ironwork. The levels of Dissolved Oxygen here must be kept to an absolute minimum.
