Peracetic

Peracetic acid (C2H4O3) is a mixture of acetic acid (CH3COOH) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in water.  Commercially available in a number of strengths, it is a powerful oxidising agent with an oxidation potential that outranges chlorine and chlorine dioxide with non-toxic degradation products (water, oxygen and carbon dioxide).   Peracetic acid is used as a clenser and disinfectant in the food industry, as a biofilm inhibitor in the pulp and paper industry and as a potable water disinfectant (including legionella control).
